What are some symptoms that can be related to a misalignment in the upper cervical area?

According to Dr. Bruce Bell, M.D. there are 32 symptoms that work as a screening criteria to determine if autonomic dysfunction is present.
The list is as follows:

1.     Headaches

2.     Unrefreshing sleep

3.     Lack of concentration

4.     Carbohydrates (sweets) craving

5.     Fatigability

6.     Lightheadedness, dizziness

7.     Tinnitus (ringing of the ears)

8.     TMJ syndrome

9.     Grinding of teeth

10.   Recurrent Sinusitis

11.   Allergic reactions

12.   Pharyngitis (sore throat)

13.   Post nasal drainage

14.   Cervical neck pain

15.   Crepitus (creaky joints) of the neck and/or other joints

16.   Back pain from cervical spine to lumbar spine

17.   Numbness/tingling of the extremities

18.   Unexplained chest pain

19.   Unexplained abdominal pain

20.   Unexplained pain in hip, knee, ankle, foot-unilateral joint pain

21.   Palpitations

22.   Acid/peptic symptoms

23.   Irritable bowel syndrome

24.   PMS symptoms

25.   Irregular periods

26.   Hypertension

27.   Hyperglycemia

28.   Depression

29.   ADD symptoms

30.   Memory deficits

31.   Anything that has to do with the immune system-frequent colds, flu, and unexplained illnesses that are recurrent and enduring (for someone of patient’s age).

32.   Scoliosis

The brain along with the brainstem and the spinal cord send information to and receive information from every organ, extremity (limb), and tissue in the body.  A C1 (atlas, or 1st bone at the top of your neck) subluxation can have a huge effect on your autonomic nervous system. Therefore, a C1 subluxation may cause one or a number of these symptoms and possibly many other symptoms not listed here. The brainstem, which is the lower portion of the brain, is where the brain and the spinal cord connect.   The lower portion of the brainstem and the begining of your spinal cord travel through the C1 vertebra.  Therefore, if there is a misalignment in that area, proper nerve flow will be diminished and/or altered due to mechanical stresses on the base of the brain and the spinal cord.

Do all your patients get the same NUCCA spinal correction?

No, they do not. That is the reason why pre x-rays are taken. With the use of the pre-xrays, the misalignment can be calculated. The formula that is calculated tells the doctor exactually how you need to be corrected. Just like no two fingerprints are same, no two formulas are the same.

Why are x-rays taken before the first correction?
X-rays are taken before the first correction to see how the head and neck have misaligned in relationship to each other.

Why are x-rays taken after the first correction?

X-rays are taken after the first correction to make sure that the proper correction was given.  If we do not take the post x-rays we would not be 100% certain that a proper correction was given. This step leaves no margin for error.

Are x-rays taken on follow-up visits?
Once the exact formula is determined from the pre x-rays and the post x-rays show that the proper correction was given, then future corrections are made using the same formula. If the patient does not experience a fall, serious accident, or some type of trauma to the head or body then more x-rays are typically unnecessary.

How does someone get a spinal misalignment?
A spinal misalignment can occur in any number of many different circumstances.  Generally a spinal misalignment occurs due to some form of trauma or another.  These traumas however large or small are definitely significant.  Below are a number but by no means a full list of possible ways to cause a spinal misalignment.
-Child birth (generally the child is at risk and not the mother)
-Falls as a child
-Any blow to the head(need not be a severe blow)
-Sporting injuries
-Automobile collisions
-Moving the neck through improper ranges of motion
-Self manipulation

Will I recover faster if I am corrected more often?
The answer here is no.  Upon examination we check for a leg length imbalance and postural distortion.  If the findings point to the need for a correction, one will be administered.  If we were to correct someone more often than indicated, the healing process could be interrupted or even reversed due to an increased potential for that patient to lose their correction.  For that reason, we perform a check for leg length imbalance, and look for postural distortion on every visit so that the patient is not over-corrected.
